Must… blog

Need to … blog

Gotta get out of this trap that is work and do something else.

This is how most of this month has been. With exception of the weekends, (spending time with my babies becomes the priority then) I have found myself getting up around 4.30, going out on the road until around 11, (or later) sitting in front of the computer setting crap up in MYOB, or doing stupid costings spreadsheets to try and balance out invoices that wont!
Maybe I’m on the phone to poor Jeffery at Post who must be sick of me by now, or to my accountant, who has this week gone on holiday (What kind of accountant takes a holiday for 6 weeks at the start of the new financial year? Grrrrr!)
Then in the late afternoon when I get so tired my head is dropping at the computer, I force myself to leave where I am and go and have a nap, only to wake up early evening and… back to work again.

Last nights effort kept me going until half past midnight.
This mornings effort… was trying to get out of bed when the alarm went off!

At least there is a light at the end of the tunnel, I even managed to do some filing this afternoon. I kinda had to though as I don’t think I could have fitted anymore in that tray even if I tried.

A friend of mine from Iowa is a habitual blogger and I do make time every day to read her My Blue House blog.
She is about to commence a Blogathon where she has to do a blog update every half hour for 24 hours (if anyone can do it SHE can) with the money raised going to various charities.
I would love to do something like that, but it just wouldn’t be practical for me. The other thing she does, which looks rather cool is the Photo Friday challenge.
Probably more practical to do something like that, trouble with Friday is that I have the kids, although with the time difference between here and the States, I could probably work on that in the evening after they go to bed.

Stay tuned!

Work

Another busy day in paradise again!
I was doing relays until after midday, had a whole pile of costings to do after that, as well as a meeting in Welshpool with the good people of Australia Post who pay me so very well!!

I really should stop being facetious!!!

Actually, I didn’t do to badly out of it today. After my meeting, I got suckered into doing some parcels around the Joondalup area, (Joondalup is a satellite city in Perth’s northern suburbs) and to compensate for only having 5 items, instead of paying me on a per item basis as they normally would with parcels, they paid me for 2 hours on time rate.
That meant that I got more than double what I would have done for items alone. You gotta be happy with that. Even more so as it took just under 2 hours to get from Welshpool to the various drops around Joondalup and back home again. Yay me!!!!

Today… I found the exclamation mark!!!!!

Still Busy

This page is archived from a static page – some links may not work

Still insanely busy with this the setting up of the new company. Been setting up the company file on MYOB this afternoon, as well as setting up new forms etc.
Had all four postcodes to do on the relay again this morning. Although a lot of the posties were still there when i started loading, a few of them were waiting for me at the relay points, especially around Dianella.
I have to admit though, it IS nice to get paid to drive home. (The last relay point is around 500metres from my house).

I need to organise a new bank account, and I’m still waiting on my new ABN, so I’m not 100% set up yet, but I am happy with the amount of work I got completed today.

Apart from that there is nothing much new, so this is where I am going to leave this post.
Don’t forget to tune in next week … same bat time, same bat chan… oh that’s just lame. Ignore me, I ramble when I’m tired!

Busy

This page is archived from a static page – some links may not work

I have been quite busy the last few days, so I haven’t posted anything. There was something that struck me as funny yesterday morning, but for the life of me, i can’t remember what it was.
I always seem to have the best inspiration in the early hours of the morning, when I do not have access to the computer!

The company is all set up, which means that I’m now a company director.
Woohoo! Because of the extra accounting and administration costs, it means I can afford to give myself a pay cut.
Let me tell you, I’m HELL excited about that!

At this stage I’m in transition mode, between operating as a sole trader and as an incorporated entity, so I have quite a bit on my plate at the moment. Its going to cause a little bit of extra paperwork for a while, as i am still going to run as a sole trader, billing my company which will in turn bill Post.
Are you keeping up?

I was busy with the relays this morning. Post run their street mail service out of central hubs called delivery centres. Their purpose is to deliver all the mail to the surrounding areas. As the posties are on small motorcycles they are unable to carry large amounts of mail so they have to break their runs up into quantities they can handle.
To save them having to constantly return to the depot, their run bags are sent to a convenient point somewhere on their run (a business willing to allow the bags to be left at their premises)

One of my jobs is to deliver these bags to the various locations so the posties can have them when they arrive. I do two postcodes and I usually receive a phonecall about half an hour beforehand to let me know what time. (These are time critical bags.)

This morning I didn’t get a phonecall and arrived at 8.30am (I have to clear a PO box there anyway) to find all the posties gone.
There weren’t that many bags this morning because it was a very light mail day, but there also wasn’t the other driver. So I ended up doing all 4 postcodes, stressing out the whole time because I half expected to get to a relay point and find a postie waiting for me.
There were none, so everything was fine. I did manage to get home relatively early though, so that can’t be a bad thing.

Out with MY kiddies

This page is archived from a static page – some links may not work

I had the kids for a while today, so I thought I would take them to that activity centre that we went to for Emily’s birthday…
And this time I remembered the camera!

I finished off the film on the 35mm camera and I’ll take it in tomorrow to get it developed, so I’ll put some images up soon.

Freeway Kiddies

This page is archived from a static page – some links may not work

Apparently today they were having a freeway beautification project…. Mmmmmm beautiful roads!
So they dropped the speed limit down to 80k’s and had all these volunteers planting trees along the side of the road. There was an ad in the local paper advising of this and reminding drivers that there will be children on the freeway planting trees

CHILDREN!!! On the damn freeway. Its like…

“I’m bored!”
“What can I do?”
“Bored, bored, bored!”
“Oh FOR GOD SAKE… Why don’t you kids go and play on the freeway or something.”

Or maybe I just have a perverted sense of humour, yeah… That’s probably it… Speed-bumps anyone?

BREAKDOWN!

This page is archived from a static page – some links may not work

Of course it had to be Friday the thirteenth.
I left my van at the mechanics as I knew I wouldn’t get chance to drop it in first thing Monday morning and, seeing as it was there, they had a look at it to try and work out what was wrong.

They are talking major transmission problems and that I should expect a mimimum repair bill of around $3,600

They say they won’t be sure until they open the box up and have a look, but it is making quite a lot of noise.
Maybe I will get lucky, and it will turn out to be just the bands but I get the feeling thats not going to happen.

The trouble is, I use what is essentially a people mover as a commercial vehicle. The auto transmission is not able to cope with the load and I can feel it straining under the pressure when the van gets heavily loaded.
I do my best to be gentle when there is large weights in the vehicle, putting it in low, then 2nd and then drive and only putting my foot softly down on the gas, but its still going to cause a strain.

I guess the only consolation is that it happened in June. Approaching tax time is much better than just after it. Of course, its more molesting of my Visa card than I had planned to do.

Breakdown

This page is archived from a static page – some links may not work

The van broke down today, its still drivable but the clutch is slipping quite badly and it refuses to come out of first gear without having to take the foot off the accelerator and then putting it back down hard, revving itself stupid as it does so.

Needless to say, I’ve had to go out and hire something so I can complete my mail run tomorrow and Monday. My mechanic can’t do anything with it until then, and I don’t want to take it to anyone else as I have had many a bad experience with mechanics in the past. (Hasn’t everybody??)

I guess I can’t complain. I’ve had quite a good run out of the vehicle, its done nearly 100,000km since the last major breakdown two years ago when the head gasket went, ( Archive – July 2001 ) although financially, this isn’t a good time because I’m busy setting up the company. Guess I will be molesting the Visa again.

Cold Day

This page is archived from a static page – some links may not work

My God it was cold this morning. According to the Bureau of Meteorology “The overnight minimum was 2.7 at 0652 hours” (36ºF)which for Perth is bloody cold.
Now I know that I have people read this site from other places, other COLDER places, and to them I say this…
Temperature is relative. You get used to certain temperatures. My mum had an email from a friend of hers in England who said to her they were experiencing a bit of a heatwave and that it was 21ºC there.

Today in Perth the maximum temperature was 20.9 and everyone is wearing jumpers and jackets and trying to keep warm.

Actually, I wasn’t too cold this morning. Although I did have 5 layers of clothing on, including the big heavy (fake) fur lined jacket that Post provided to me a few years ago. Oh yes, and my beanie… Apparently I either looked like a criminal, or a rapper.

I don’t care, at least I was warm. I hate this cold!
