Every year my dad and I make the journey down to the dawn service to commemorate Anzac day.
We used to go up to Kings Park but over time the crowds of people made it increasingly difficult. It’s still quite amazing to see the thousands of people who go up to the state war memorial as a mark of respect for all who have lost their lives in war but you need to get in very early to get anywhere near the Cenotaph.
This year we decided to go to the service in Bayswater which turned out to be a really good move. It’s not too far from my mum’s house and the city had spent quite a bit of money improving the grounds around the memorial adding a wall and footpaths.
Dawn broke to the sound of a bugle playing “The Last Post” followed by a moment of quiet reflection.
